Drawing with Thread | Saskia Jorda

|
Saskia Jorda, Venezuelan-born, is an interdisciplinary artist working on site-specific installations, drawings, and performances. Scientific research has been a departure point for Jorda’s work since the time of her undergraduate studies at Arizona State University. This relationship developed further in the work she did for her Master’s degree at the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
Since then, her work has referenced the relationship between body and space, cultural identity, and mapping a sense of place. Saskia has participated in several artist residency programs such as the ones offered at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Skowhegan, Maine, and UTD/Southside in Dallas, Texas. She has received various awards including the Contemporary Forum of the Phoenix Art Museum Artist Grant in 2009 and an Artist Project Grant from the Arizona Commission on the Arts in 2010. She has exhibited within the U.S.A. in Arizona, Florida, New York, North Carolina, Georgia, Texas, Maryland, and Wisconsin, and internationally in Belgium, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Switzerland, and most recently in China. Saskia Jorda is based in Scottsdale, Arizona where, in addition to her practice, she is the Director of the Taliesin Artist Residency Program at Taliesin West, The Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture. |
